Hey guys and gals. My name is Rick, one of the visual fx artists working on Templars as we speak. I noticed things have gotten kind of quiet lately on the part of folks like Director Jonathan Lawrence, and thought I would drop a couple bits of news.
The silence is probably disheartening for many. "Did they give up?" you might be thinking. But it's more like when you are out at a restaurant and the main course comes - everyone gets quiet and starts eating. In a similar way (sort of) that's what is happening with the film's post-production team right now. Things are brewing, and we are digging in.
The final stages of post-production are underway. Director Lawrence is doing a final pass at sound design through the film, and the visual fx crew (myself included) are doing final passes at the dozens (more than 60) of visual effects shots for this humble little fan film.
Those fortunate enough to see "top secret" film footage (at the Queen Mary in Long Beach) in November will know that there were preliminary effects - crude and unfinished. While we'd love for the film to just "be done," the differences between those preliminary shots and what will be called "final" are astounding in many cases.
Right now, for example, I am working on the climactic shot of the opening act (that train at the end of the teaser is actually shown in all its glory), and we've made some huge advances in the all-CGI environment that were not possible last November.
Granted, so much time has passed, but the results of our efforts will be unbelievable. We are going to deliver, and it will be worth the wait… we just hope you're still here in a couple months. You don't want to miss it! |

Great news!! Thank you! I could not believe that the staff had gave up... so I kept checking this forum almost every week, silently without show any impatience or without mourning... and so I'll do till the movie'll come out! I can't wait for it! _________________ "Genius of the Restoration, aid our resuscitation!" |

Ditto the Professor.
Much as we at the forum would love to hear some news about the film, we'd much rather see a wonderfully finished product.

Hey folks, Rick here again, with a quick update on our progress. It's been an intensive 48 hours. Just a few moments ago I got sign-off from Jonathan on what is probably the most complex visual fx shot in the film (although it may not appear that way when it's done) composed of 2 separately shot live-action Indy's, a digital Indy, a digital train and cliff, a live action cliff, and about 60 After Effects layers. A quick kudos to Greg Sullivan (the other half of the digital fx team). He did an outstanding job setting up the train and all its textures, and passed it along to me to polish and marry all of the elements together with the digital environment I've been working on.
Just some finishing touches and I'll get to move on to the next group of shots. Fortunately, all that remains for me is the 90-minute feature's finale, which is also heavy on digital fx.
We are getting really pumped, and for those who wonder when this epic feat will be unleashed on an unsuspecting world - Jonathan has given me a deadline for my remaining shots (sorry, can't tell you just yet). It's coming. Thanks for your patience. |

It'll be good to see just what CGI fate a certain Forbes meets ;) But I understand, the finale is extremely important, and can vouch that it is the heaviest part of the film on effects. Best of luck _________________ Mark "m0ds" Lovegrove |

Yikes! I almost forgot about that shot (it's on my to-do list). His fate seems rather abrupt, and I'm hoping to convince Jonathan that we can add a bit of supernatural etherealism to it - a bit more along the lines of the Nazis in Raiders. Seems fitting. |

Yep yep, but then that whole finale sequence is relatively supernatural, or at least, weird and wonderful :) Good luck with the blag! _________________ Mark "m0ds" Lovegrove |

Rick
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us - its really encouraging to hear that things are going well. I know how busy Jonathan and the rest of the team is and sometimes I wonder things get done at all.
I know the movie really will be better for the wait - doesnt mean I am not itching to see it though myself ;)
