|
|
Hello Friends,
While shooting the film, I had my small Canon digital still/video camera with me at all times. I was not only taking photos with it, which I took over 600 stills during the production. I also took over 100 videos with it. The videos are of moderate quality and run about 15 fps and have a resolution of 320 by 240. Each video clip is about 3 mins long and looks pretty darn good on a big screen, which surprised me. It was my little way of documenting my experiences making this film. I am currently working on documentary comprised of those videos and some XL-2's behind the scenes footage. I will also be shooting a sit down interview with myself as I also give commentary on all of the other videos. Some of the behind the scenes stills will be used as well as some screen grabs here and there. I hope to have this done by the time the film itself is complete. I will now gladly open the floor up to you, if you have a question for me about my experiences on this film and others I have worked on, just start posting!
UPDATE:
Hello everyone, my goodness it has beena while since I have posted, life has been crazy. Anyway, I have been editing away the past few weeks. I started to work on this project months ago but I got side tracked and forgot about it. However, I have been ahrd at work and have come up with a 35 min cut picture lock. Right now I am just working on titles, making minor changes, making it pretty you know. I hope to have it done within the next two weeks if not before. I shall keep you posted. Oh btw, the title has changed to "The Life of Treasure of the Templars" as of right now! Cheers!
FINAL: Well, that's a wrap folks, "The Life of Treasure of the Templars" is now a completed project. I am not sure about any distribution or internet hosting as of this date. The final running time is 36 minutes and the film is presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio. I will be posting screen grabs very soon, CHEERS!! _________________ Highest Regards,

This I want to see - there is a lot of interesting/amusing/down right embarassing footage that I can remember on this, and worse, things I no doubt can't remember!

Yes indeed Ken there are, some on me as well, lol! I am also converting the video into 16-9 to fit with the XL-2 footage. So the videos from the small camera will be fake but good looking 16-9 and the XL-2 footage will be true 16-9 images. I have tested the small camera images on my computer screen and they look geat bigger. I am going to test the quality on a TV screen soon. No matter what, I think it will be a fun video! _________________ Highest Regards,

Thanks indeed Erri! I hope to also try some color correction of the low res. footage. I hope I can enhance the images to give a somehwhat smoother and cleaner look in the end. I will most likely be using Adobe for that task. The images are a little bit pixelated, however I think with a little editing magic of mine, I can take away that look. I will be using three different editing softwares to do all of the editing, color correction, and authoring work. There seems to be some sort of odd encoding on these low res. videos, odd indeed. The only editing software that will let me import them as is, is Windows Movie Maker. I hate to have to use this software, makes me feel cheap but, I am only going to use it for the actual cutting. Then it will be taken into with Adobe Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas Pro for the color correction and final rendering. Authoring will be done with Sony software as well as of right now, but I have had notion for some time to get an addition DVD authoring software just to try something different. I am planning on mixing this down as a high res. MPEG for the DVD as well as an internet friendly render (mixdown). _________________ Highest Regards,

I too am very interested in seeing what you put together, Josh. So now, not only am I biting my nails waiting to be able to see ToT, I get to wait for your documentary, as well.
I suppose that perhaps this thread may be an appopriate place for you to discuss other films you have worked on? I am also interested in your projects as much as I am interested in ToT. Can't wait to shake your hand again this year at the QM.

Thank ya sir! Well editing is going very very slow right now as I am getting a job at one of local news stations, WOWK-TV 13 NEWS (CBS). I am also getting ready to go out of town for a couple weeeks to shoot another picture. I will be using my XL-2 and as well as second camera operator I am also second unit director as well. I have a lot of work ahead of me this next couple of weeks. I hope that when I get back I can settle into my new job and really get down to cutting this "flickumentary" as I am thinking of calling it! _________________ Highest Regards,

Alright, well I have viewed the first DVD copy and have decided to go back and make some changes. There are a few things I want to shorten as well as a few little things that bother my perfectionist side. I am also going to add a score to it because I feel that it really needs a score in certain places. So we shall see, I think this next pass will be the most important of the entire editing process. I shall keep you all posted. _________________ Highest Regards,
